On the 4th of October, The Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN UPSA LOCAL) organized their internal elections at the Graduate Block of UPSA.
The election was quite peaceful until eventually after few minutes, there was a little distraction and confusion.
Getting closer. It was realized that the cause of this is the presence of the TESCON members.
According to TEIN members, TESCON members are not supposed to be present on the grounds but they were. And TESCON members replied that there were some TEIN members present at their election so they also have the right to be at theirs.
Drawing closer and having some interactions, it was noted that, one of the presidential aspirants, RASHID IBRAHIM, is actually the incumbent president and wants to be re- elected so it was alleged that he being the incumbent president would mean there would be a higher probability of rigging in the election . Even election that was expected to be done with the use of ballot papers was actually done online meaning there could be a high rate of rigging. In this case, the other aspirant, Henry Abawe Musah, wouldn’t agree that the election continues since he wants a free and fair election as the constitution says.
The election was then suspended for about 30minutes where a confidential meeting involving the aspirants and executives and the Electoral commission officials and they came to a consensus that the election continues with just Henry Abawe Musah(presidential aspirant) being the only person to disagree. But then the election continued regardless.
